Character Name: Oliver Queen
Series: Arrow
Age: 27
From When?: 1x09 "Year's End' - the Dark Archer's attack kills him

Inmate/Warden: Inmate; Oliver has good intentions but he takes it several steps too far. In one episode, he hunted down one of his kidnappers and snapped the man's neck, claiming that "no one could know [his] secret". In another, he nearly beat someone to death for attacking his ex-girlfriend, only stopping because she intervened and even then, he showed no remorse for his actions. His sense of justice is very black and white. If you are on the list, there is no second chance. He doesn't seem to have a problem with killing someone he decides isn't innocent. The mission has become everything to him at the cost of his humanity.

He also spraypaints his mask on like a tit.

Item:

Abilities/Powers: In his five years on Lian Yu, Oliver learned how to survive and defend himself. He learned how to shoot a bow and arrow with amazing accuracy. He can shoot a gun out of someone hand with an arrow, and pin their pant leg to the ground without scratching skin. He excels at hand to hand combat and frequently incorporates it with his shooting to incapacitate people, though he can take someone down without the bow too. On the island he learned many herbal remedies and basic first aid skills. You'll have a nasty scar most likely but you won't die.

Oliver is fluent in three languages, English, Russian and Chinese. He seems to have more than a basic knowledge of computers and hacking. He's able to fashion custom arrows that explode, wirelessly infiltrate firewalls, serve as grappling hooks, etc. Obviously that won't be likely to happen on the Barge since he won't have the materials or equipment.

As he's an Inmate, he won't come here with his bow, but it's not entirely unfeasible that he couldn't make a new one from one of the trees in the CES if someone lets him in there, along with more arrows.

Personality: Oliver is not a nice person. He's never really been a nice person. In his youth, he was selfish and cruel. He didn't care about what his actions did to others and was very self absorbed into his money and the social status that came with it. He cheated on his long time girlfriend with her sister because he thought things were getting too serious. He was a spoiled, rich little brat to be honest. He was arrested four times, once for DUI, for assaulting a paparazzi, for stealing a taxi and then for peeing on a cop. And it all seemed to be one big joke to him. Just another antic for the press and to keep himself amused.

The island changed him, not necessarily for the better. He's just... different now. His life became about surviving, everything human about him became whittled down to nothing as getting through the day was more important. He forgot about holidays and birthdays. While he did come off the island without the desire to party or sleep around like he used to, it was less about a change for himself and more because that just didn't happen for the past five years and it all seems horribly meaningless. There's a wall around him, where he doesn't let anything in and nothing comes out. There's times where he doesn't really seem to be aware of it, of how he's distanced from society and normal human interactions. He doesn't sleep or eat much, only what he has to to survive, another result of the island. Oliver is uncomfortable around crowds and people in general, preferring to be alone. A lot of pop culture references for the past five years go over his head too.

For someone who spends most of his time lying, it's ironic how much he doesn't bother to hide what he really thinks about something. Usually, he doesn't have a very high opinion of people. He's dismissive of others' opinions and talks over them if they disagree. Or he pretends like he didn't hear it at all. He's good at belittling people, and not really caring about their feelings. Oliver spins just enough truth into his lies to make them believable, which also makes it hard to piece out what is the truth and what isn't. To make it even harder, he throws sarcasm into the mix and can be pretty sassy.

While he appears not to care much about his family and friends, and how they're dealing with his sudden return from the dead, he does. In his own way. It hurts him that he has to hurt them, but he's convinced himself that it's the only way to keep them safe. To keep everyone he cares about safe, he keeps them at arm's length at all times. He will go out of his way to be harsh whenever someone starts getting closer to him. Even with Diggle, who is arguably the closest person in his life because he knows about the vigilante, he is argumentative and cold whenever Diggle questions his choices. Diggle is becoming a voice of reason though Oliver is very good at ignoring him.

His emotional armor isn't perfect. The longer he's at home, the harder it's getting to lie to people. He cracks sometimes, kissing Laurel and asking her not to leave, throwing a Christmas party to bring his family closer together, bringing his mother to get a burger when she said she still misses him, teasing his little sister. He's finding himself increasingly lonely and desperate for company but convinced that he can't have it. Because of his mission, but there is a part of him that doesn't think he deserves it, as sort of a penance for the person he used to be and for the wrongs that his family committed against the citizens of Starling City.

Oliver has a deep sense of guilt that he will not let go of. There's survivor's guilt and some PTSD that's working into that, as is expected for a man who survived a shipwreck with two people, only to watch his father shoot the other guy and then himself right in front of him. It's a deep wound, and one that he doesn't like to talk about much, if he even takes the time to acknowledge that it's there. It's kind of become buried under the past five years of fending for himself on an island. The only death he feels any sort of guilt for is Sarah's, as he invited her on the yacht that sank and that really even can't be entirely put on his shoulders. While he shows guilt for who he used to be, he doesn't have an ounce of it about who he is now. It's necessary, in his mind, and he's not going to apologize for what he's deemed necessary to survive. His survival is paramount above everyone else's.

It's important to recognize that while Oliver thinks there's a difference between Oliver Queen and Arrow, there really isn't. Arrow is who he is, all the time. Oliver the man died on the island. The vigilante, even when he's pretending to be normal, is all that's left. He's a man obsessed. What he'll do when the list is completely crossed off hasn't even occurred to him yet. It's nowhere on his radar. He does play up the spoiled, irresponsible image to throw people off who he really is, that's true. But he doesn't have to try very hard to be a dick to people. People tell him he's a good man and it's clear that he doesn't believe them.

Oliver is kind of a hypocrite. His sense of justice seems to be okay only for him to carry out. It's justice when he does it, because he thinks he's the only one that can save the city. When Helena Bertinelli kills a man to keep her secret, he seems utterly shocked by that and tries to convince her that she's going too far in seeking to punish her father. He tells her that killing her father isn't justice but killing is something he's done and will continue to do. He shoots lackeys like they're red shirts. He kills to keep his secret. He usually attempts to financially incapacitate the people on the list, but if that doesn't work, he then results to physical violence and people die. There is no leniency after they've wasted their chance.

If someone hurts someone he cares about, all bets are off. He will make them pay for what they did. It's also entirely possible that if and when he finds out about his mother's involvement in the organization trying to ruin Starling City, he'd turn her into just another name on his list. He has a set of strict morals that he seems to exempt himself sometimes from by saying that it had to be done. He lacks empathy and mercy. His justice is built around the list, and he doesn't seem to care much about anything else. Even when he's faced with bank robbers, he only gets interested in stopping them after he finds out that one of them was laid off by his father, and thus forced into desperation.

Barge Reactions: Immediately he's going to think he's been kidnapped and try to figure out what the fuck is going on. Once Oliver learns that he's here to be redeemed, he will be uncooperative for a while. He's meant to be in Starling City, not here, he doesn't have anything to learn, etc. He probably won't know what to think after his first flood/port/breach. Magic isn't a thing in his world, nor are alternate universes and things like that, so he might try to put it down as a hallucinogenic effect and that none of it really happened. He'll probably come around in time to accept that other worlds exist and that this ship defies what he knows scientifically because the evidence will eventually stack against him.

Oliver will not react well to anyone claiming to know him as the vigilante and not as Oliver Queen; playboy billionaire who recently tried to recreate Lost in his real life. As his vigilante persona is a closely guarded secret, he isn't likely to own up to it here for a long time or trust anyone that talks about it without him bringing it up first. Anyone to pushes it too much though, might get a visit from a pissed off Oliver in the middle of the night, with threats to keep their mouth shut. He's not, on a day to day basis, going to dress up in the hood and terrorize people with a bow because this isn't Starling City and no one here is on the list. He will do what he's done in Starling City in a way, downplay his abilities and act the spoiled rich kid to throw people off his trail.

Since the last time he was on a boat, it shipwrecked, I think his first crashing of the Barge will trigger some of his PTSD, nor do I expect that he'll ever be completely okay with it happening, and will experience mood swings when it does.

Path to Redemption: Oliver needs balance, and a strong sense of it. He's already let his vigilante persona take over everything, and has completely sacrificed what makes him human for it. He'll need someone who can convince him that is possible to have both, to protect his city and to have love again. He has it in him to be a great hero, and to bring real justice back to his city, he just needs to reconnect with his empathy.

Talking about the island will not get much out of him. Going through the route of his family and friends probably won't make much headway at first, because he's decided that it's necessary to push them away and hurt them.

He needs some redirection, and someone who can help him start to truly heal from his time on the island. Whoever he gets paired with will have to earn his full trust first, and then he'll be more likely to open up about his vigilantism, as his Warden will have to be able to talk about that freely with him before any real change is made. He's open to reason once trust is there.

Sample Journal Entry:

So how's this work. We wake up here. Get this tablet thing [thanks to product placing he knows what that is] and tell our sob story for everyone and then go to lunch?

Alright.

My name is Oliver Queen. My family has more money than you could count. I like moonlight walks by the beach, pina coladas and singing in the rain.

I don't like boats.

Who's next? I'm hungry.

Sample RP: So. This was a boat. Waking up on the floor of his room that was clearly not his room because it opened into a hallway that he'd never seen before and there was no view out his window, just stars, had been confusing enough. How did he get there? Why wasn't he hurt? Did he dream the whole thing? That was possible. Very possible except he was dressed as the vigilante and after a moment of panic (what if someone saw him like this), he dismissed the idea of it being a dream (nightmare). Something had happened. Something terrible had happened.

By the time he made it up to the deck, Oliver had gathered this was completely over his head. This was a ship, with dozens of mismatched doors and amenities (dining hall, gym, pool table?) and a deck that... opened to stars and with no sign of water. He knew there were people aboard, because he took care to avoid them on his way up here. God, where the hell was he? How did he even get here?

Oliver had been fighting the feeling that he was losing his mind since the moment the Queen's Gambit sank. And, he thought, he'd been doing pretty good all things considered. Considering the Russian mob tortured and tried to kill him. Considering he'd been mentored by a dangerous Chinese prisoner. Considering he watched his father blow his own brains out. Considering that he spent five years there. But this? He wasn't sure what to make of this. This was one elaborate kidnapping. This was well done. This was the work of a master. Oliver would tip his metaphorical hat to them if he wasn't the victim here.

Right. He was kidnapped, bowless and without answers. Time to get some. Oliver crossed to the railing, intent on breaking off a piece to use as a weapon. It didn't break, not even a splinter and again, if he wasn't a victim here, he'd be impressed by that ingenuity. Fine. He didn't need it, not really. It made him feel more comfortable to have something in his hand, something to lend some distance between him and his target, a product of his time on the island. But it wasn't necessary. Oliver crouched by the entrance to the deck, readying himself. Whoever walked through that door next was in for a surprise.

Special Notes: While I recognize that Oliver Queen is a DC character and will definitely be filed under that, I don't plan on taking very much from the comics for playing him. References at the most. Arrow is its own verse.
